The project starts from an old ground floor house between half-timbered buildings, which preserved the original distribution of four bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and bathroom. Its great value resided in the backyard of exceptional dimensions, with privileged views over the surrounding vineyards.
The task was to transform the building into a medium-capacity rural lodging, increasing the number of beds and creating a large and comfortable common space for the guests. The challenge was to do it in a surgical way: keeping all the usable parts of the existing building and, at the same time, generating the necessary new spaces.
The intervention is solved volumetrically with a simple and clear operation. The original building, located on the street, is rehabilitated to allocate five rooms with bathroom and a common bathroom. In parallel, a
The new volume is designed with a cover of unique encavallades, which allows a great light and accentuates the feeling of spaciousness and transparency. The sequence pavilion – garden – vineyards becomes the central axis of the project and its most valuable experience.
The refurbishment of the existing building incorporates exterior insulation, improved roofing and replacement of fuses to achieve optimal energy performance. The new pavilion has been designed with traditional construction, but incorporating sustainable and energy-efficient elements: ceramics, wood, large-grain tiles, high-performance wood floors, increased ventilation and high-efficiency air conditioning and DHW systems.
The project manages to give continuity to the original house, enlarging it with new spaces and adapting it to the needs of a modern, efficient and connected to the landscape rural lodging.
