The project is located in the old town of Vendrell, in a single-family house that was in a very poor state, with the roof completely blown away and part of the slabs collapsed. The task consisted of giving a second life to the property, transforming it into two independent homes for two brothers, and at the same time solving the structural and energetic problems it presented.
The intervention combines the recovery of the exterior appearance of a village house with a comprehensive reorganization of the interiors. The
The distribution has been achieved by straightening the walls to adapt the space to the new needs. Singular elements such as the courtyard and the façade have been preserved, which, although based on the pre-existence, has been adapted to the new organization while maintaining its traditional image of an old house: vertically proportioned openings and predominance of the floor over the ceiling.
Constructively, natural materials such as lime mortars and silicate paints have been used, and energy efficiency criteria have been incorporated: insulation, high performance fuses and high efficiency thermal equipment. The result is a building that, from a very degraded pre-existence, is transformed into two modern and efficient dwellings, able to meet the needs of its new inhabitants without losing the character of the village houses.
