2510 Monjos

The project transforms an old parking lot built with simple materials into a village bookstore located in the center of Els Monjos, close to Pau Casals square. It is a personal initiative of a young entrepreneur who wanted to offer more than just a place to sell books: a space open to reading, to exchange and to the cultural life of the town.

The architectural proposal responds to this objective by expanding the program with complementary spaces: a cafeteria, a multipurpose space to host reading clubs, colloquiums or presentations, and a children’s area. All of this makes the bookshop a place to be there, to share and experience reading in different formats.

The building has two floors. The ground floor houses the sales and customer service area, the cafeteria, the service areas and the communication nucleus. The second floor concentrates the children’s area and a flexible sales area that can also function as an activity space.

The materials chosen seek the essence of the Penedès village houses, with a language that combines rusticity and contemporaneity. A simple architecture that accompanies and gives warmth, designed to create an atmosphere that invites you to immerse yourself in the world of books.

More than a bookstore, the project aims to be an integral space dedicated to reading and its universe: buying, reading, sharing a book or having a coffee are all part of the same experience.
